Gail Rappaport, J.D.
Gail Rappaport, a mediator and attorney, founded the Mediation Center in 1981 in order to provide the community with a constructive alternative to the traditional adversarial approach to family law. The Center's services have expanded over the last decade to include all areas of law. An experienced mediator, teacher, and trainer, she has assisted thousands of people in reaching fair, cooperative, and mutually beneficial agreements.
Ms. Rappaport has practiced law since 1977 and is a former executive director of the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara County. She has presented workshops on mediation at various conferences, and teaches family law and mediation skills at colleges and universities, as well as through Peaceful Resolutions Institute, a non-profit community service organization of which she is a director.
Ms. Rappaport has served on various community boards, is a member of the state and county bar associations, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and various other professional organizations. In 1990, she was honored as an "Outstanding Woman" by the Santa Barbara County Commission on the Status of Women. She is a volunteer auctioneer, has produced several plays locally, and presently serves on the board at Santa Barbara's Center Stage Theater.
